True Story

Margaret is the wife of the pastor, Martin, but before she met him she had attended church for several years but did not understand what a Christian really was. Here she describes how this was........

When I was young
When I was young my mum used to take me to church. She was a Sunday School teacher, so every week she took me to Sunday School. I thought  then that a Christian was someone who went to church most weeks and  did good things, such as looking after people and doing caring things in their lives.

Eventually, at the age of 18, I went away to teacher training college. I stayed out in lodgings and shared a bedroom with another girl called Jean. We had never met before in our lives but we were just put in this bedroom together.

One of the first things Jean had decided to do was to find out where and when  the college Christian Union would meet, and go to it. I thought, well we are room mates, I might as well go along with her. So I went and discovered that they met twice a week

A Powerful Meeting
After I had been going for a few weeks I realised that being a Christian was not just doing good things in your life, there was more to  it than that. The weeks went on and one night I went to the Christian Union and it was a really powerful meeting. The love of God was was so strong in that room. It really touched me and after the meeting someone shared with me about the love of Jesus and showed me the scriptures and told me how much God loved me, and that he loved me so much he had sent his son to die for me.

Totally Different
I went back to my lodgings that night and told Jean about this and she asked, “Would you like to accept Jesus into your life?”  I agreed to this and asked God to forgive my sins and asked Jesus into my life. It was really lovely. It was totally different to just going to Church. It made a real difference to me and the Bible verse that really came home to me that night was in 1 John 4:18  Afterwards I put it on my college wall . Ever since the love of God has always been so strong to me and it has spoken to me all through my life

Further, Romans chapter 8 tells us that nothing can separate us from the love of Christ and I just believe that if you have Jesus in your life then there is nothing that is too difficult for you, there is nothing that you cannot overcome with God.

Right now, the love of God is as wonderful to me as it was then. It was a truly wonderful evening when God came into my life and he was not the only person who came into my life that day, because the person who shared with me at the meeting was Martin who is now my husband.
