Veronica came to Christ through her friends when she was a teenager. Here she explains how it happened....
When I was young I went to school in Clitheroe where the sixth formers often used to take the full school assembly. On one occasion when I was about 15 years old one of the sixth formers called Katy explained how she had invited Jesus Christ into her life to become a Christian.
I conceded there could be a God
This started a lot of discussion afterwards and I argued that there was no God but gradually I argued myself into a corner and I realised that something must have started the universe and that this something could be God. I also conceded if there was a God then this could quite reasonably be the God whom Christians worshipped.
About this time a new pupil called Adele was wanting to find a suitable church and invited me to help her. So one Sunday morning we set out and arrived at one church building but discovered that we were much too early for the service. We decided to walk around until it was opened. While we were doing this we met a man who was handing out literature. He was in fact the minister of another local church and he invited us to one of their meetings. We accepted his invitation and continued to go to a few meetings.
At some of the meetings we found that people were invited to make the same commitment to Jesus Christ as Katy had explained about at school: to believe that Jesus Christ had died for us, to turn from our old way of living and receive him into our lives.
I responded to this several times until eventually I felt assured that something had happened.
Years later, I now look back on that time as a very important turning point in my life and I now have the assurance of knowing God is always there, caring and giving my life hope and purpose.
